Assassins' bullets cut down this week one of Serbia's best hopes for a break from its corrupt and violent past. The killing of Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic was attributed to a notorious underworld group, one of several mafia-like organizations that Djindjic had targeted for deportation to stand trial for war crimes at The Hague.
Djindjic, who was 50 when gunned down outside a Belgrade government building, stood out for several important reasons.
