The Federal Aviation Administration has joined the long list of federal agencies that are worried Americans might be getting too fat. The FAA has instructed airlines to conduct a 30-day sampling of passenger and luggage weights on routes served by small planes, reports the Washington Post. The FAA wants the data so it can assess its assumptions for operating conditions on small planes. The Post reports that the program is related to concerns that overloading may have contributed to the January 8 crash of a US Airways Express twin-engine Beech 1900D in Charlotte, N.C.
