For more than a century, the little town of Rochelle has been known as the Hub City-at least in Rochelle.
But now, the old civic nickname is being taken a bit more seriously.
Open land around Rochelle is hot property-among the most desirable in the state. That's because an enormous, $181-million intermodal freight transportation center-linking rail lines and long-haul trucks-is slated to open there in August on 1,200 acres near Interstates 39 and 88. Speculators are snapping up nearby land, with plans to build the warehouses, factories and distribution centers that the intermodal facility is expected to spawn.
