They decided to flee Britain on an epic barge journey through the canals of Europe from Holland to the Black Sea in Russia.
I caught up with mum Susan, 55, and dad Rodger, 56, in Ghent, Belgium, where they've tied up their boat the Grand Duchy for the winter.
