One misconception about fiberglass boats is that they never have to be torn apart and rebuilt like wooden boats. Another is that once a fisherman works his boat a few seasons, he'll sell it to someone else just starting in the fishery and then buy himself a new boat.
Well, you just have to go down to Farrin's Boatshop in Walpole, Maine, to see that those two assumptions aren't always on the mark.
At the end of January, the 38-foot Apparition, a Young Brothers hull, was on the shop floor. This same boat 'over the years has earned a reputation as one of the faster boats in Maine's lobster boat racing circuit.
