THE ACTIVIST group Environmental Defense is calling for a renewed effort on the part of the chemical industry to honor its commitment to provide data needed for basic hazard assessments of high production volume (HPV) chemicals, and to meet a 2005 deadline for informing the public of the results.
But while implementation of the five-year-old HPV Challenge Program "has by no means been flawless," Environmental Defense acknowledges in a new report that the initiative "constitutes a remarkable achievement that is charting new territory"
