In 2003, BEMA celebrates 85 years of service to the baking industry. After World War I, hundreds of thousands of people were starving in Europe. In 1918, a group of baking equipment manufacturers gathered in Chicago to sketch out the framework for the Bakery Equipment Manufacturers Association. BEMA was formed to organize the efforts of U.S. manufacturers to improve production and enhance the safety of their equpment to feed Europe's hungry people.
Over time, BEMA has made substantial contributions to the baking industry. Some of the highlights are:
