NEW YORK -- A proliferation of new products with high-profile brand names is bound to lift the hair care category, according to chain drug retailers.
"It would be one thing if there were a lot of new no-name items coming out," remarks one chain drug category manager. "But when there's a slew of products bursting on the scene with names like [Albert-Culver Co 's] TRESemme, [Unilever Home & Personal Care USA's] Dove and [Maybelline/Garnier's] Garnier, as in Garnier Fructis -- well, other brands just better watch out."
The launches have especially raised expectations for the shampoo and conditioner segments, which saw less than scintillating sales gains ...
