A clematis is a kind of vine.
Right?
Yes. And no. It's true that most are vines. But the group also includes some beautiful plants called bush, or herbaceous, clematis.
These look something like small shrubs but are treated more like perennials in the garden. Tube clematis (C. heracleifolia) grows 3 or 4 feet tall, producing beautiful clusters of tubular blue flowers in late summer and early fall. The large, jagged leaves are also attractive.
Technically a "sub-shrub," it stands upright on woody stems without any support. Tube clematis is easy to grow in full sun or partial shade. In my garden, fluffy, ...
