I don't know about you, but I find my eyes glazing over when I read an article discussing leptons and quarks and hadrons. My knowledge of particle physics, where these types of critters live, is very limited. And when you try to look up the words, you find more confusing terms, like gluons and muons. Apparently these guys didn't learn what I did from my plane geometry teacher when I was a high school sophomore: Never define a term with other unknown, undefined terms.
I read about a conference held not long ago at the National Institute of Standards and Technology on "Best Practices for Communication of Science and Technology to the Public." Copies of the 156-page ...
