I find it extraordinary that after thousands of years, in the year 2003 we can still marvel at ancient cave paintings in remote places around the globe, which provide us with a detailed understanding of people's lives and behaviour from those historic times.

Just think of the ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics which continue to amaze and endow us with incredible insights into the cultural development of one of the great civilizations. These are messages that were left not only for future generations detailing their lives, but as communications for their own peers.
