Despite the current financial woes of the nation's airlines and forecasts of industry restructuring, recovery is expected before the carriers serving Lindbergh Field would be asked to help finance construction of a new airport.
Air travel is also expected to decline sharply if bombs begin to drop on Iraq. But Joe Craver, chairman of the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority board and chief executive of Galaxie Management, said people's fear of flying "would begin to ease up" following an outbreak of hostilities and they would to start to take to the airways again, at least on domestic flights.
