Last week's historic blizzard arrived just in time to save thirsty warm-water fisheries on Colorado's northern plains from death by drought.
The storm, which dumped as many as 11 feet of snow in places along the Front Range, raised the snowpack in the South Platte River drainage from 76 percent to 110 percent of average. The surge of water that results is sure to benefit large reservoirs such as North Sterling and Jackson, which barely escaped fish kills last fall.
