In recent years, some anecdotal reports have linked the use of sildenafil (Viagra[R]), a drug that restores sexual potency in men, to psychological disturbances and sexual aggression. No concrete evidence existed to prove such a correlation until researcher Harry A. Milman provided the first mechanistic hypothesis during a trial of a man accused of sexual assault while taking sildenafil.
To complete the study, researchers examined the scientific literature on sildenafil, nitric oxide (NO), and adverse event reports that referenced sildenafil filed with the Food and Drug Administration Adverse Event Reporting System between January 4, 1998, and February 21, 2001.
