A Turkish Airlines passenger plane on a routine flight from Istanbul to Ankara was hijacked in the air late Friday, Turkey's communication minister said.

The passengers include two members of Parliament from the ruling Justice and Development Party, another from the opposition party and two former ministers, news channel NTV reported, quoting a passenger list.

One hijacker was believed to be involved, said Communication Minister Binali Yildirim, adding that his motive was not yet known. A passenger confirmed the report via his mobile phone.
