NEW YORK -- As expected, the long-awaited switch of Claritin to over-the-counter status is having a major impact on the allergy relief segment. "It's selling out despite the fact it's not allergy season," notes the manager of a Manhattan outlet of a leading drug store chain. "But we've also promoted it quite strongly."
In fact, a number of the top drug chains have installed special in-store displays for the O-T-C version of Schering-Plough Corp.'s best-selling prescription allergy medicine. Some chains took out full-page newspaper advertisements as well.
