Don "Ground Hog" Johnson, a native of Covington now living in Anderson Township, was a professional baseball player with a lifetime batting average of .335.
He played for the Philadelphia Stars and the Chicago American Giants in the 1940s and '50s, but few baseball fans recognize his name.
Johnson played in the Negro Leagues, and like other African-American players of his era, his career is largely unknown among baseball fans.
During Opening Day on Monday, how-ever, that might change -- at least in the Queen City.
