OK For Avanir: Avanir Pharmaceuticals, which sells the and-herpes cream Abreva, said it won FDA permission to test an experimental allergy and asthma drug for its safety in healthy individuals.
The compound known as AV 13358 aims to pre-empt the release of mediators involved in asthma and allergy, Avanir said. Existing drugs such as antihistamines only suppress symptoms of allergy, but they can't stop the progression of disease, Avanir said.
