Apr. 1--An accounting-fraud charge against HealthSouth Corp. has stopped construction of a Phenix City rehabilitation hospital that was to be jointly owned by that company and Columbus Regional Healthcare System.
The project's general contractor, M.J. Harris Inc. of Birmingham, Ala., suspended work Monday because of Birmingham-based HealthSouth's financial problems, said project manager Chris Clark. The company remains under contract with HealthSouth on this and other projects, which have also been suspended indefinitely.
