Thirty years ago Lake Erie was a symbol of disaster. Today the Lake represents how the environment can be improved when government partners join across state and national borders. To understand how these changes have taken place, the Ohio Lake Erie Commission produced a State of the Lake Report in 1998 that assessed changes in the use, perception and above all the quality of Lake Erie, as summarized by a Lake Erie Quality Index.
