Uzbekistan Posts Inflation Of 21.6% In 2002

Consumer prices in Uzbekistan rose 21.6% in 2002, compared with 26.6% in 2001, the Central Bank has said.

The government had targeted inflation of 14%-15% for 2002.

This year, the government is forecasting inflation of 10%-12%.

The increase in prices for the products of natural monopolies controlled by the state, an increase in customs duty, which affects the price of imported consumer goods, and a general increase in prices triggered by structural reforms contributed to inflation, according to the Central Bank.
