It is extremely important to prepare patients for in vitro fertilisation by providing information and reducing anxiety. With this as a focus, the multidisciplinary team at the reproductive medicine unit at Liverpool Women's Hospital undertook a practice review to try to improve patients' experience of their first consultation before treatment.
After a fact-finding exercise looking at practice in similar units, and team discussions about objectives, a plan evolved. This was to introduce a monthly patient information evening (PIE).
