ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - "A real Lou-Lou," screamed the headline across the lead sports page of the St. Petersburg Times yesterday morning.
"It was," noted the Tampa Tribune, ". . . a perfect way to begin the Lou Piniella era."
Oh, and Times columnist Gary Shelton, writing about Piniella, observed that "the old guy still has it."
True, it was Carl Crawford, and not Sweet Lou, whose three-run, ninth-inning home run Monday night powered the Tampa Bay Devil Rays to a 6-4 Opening Day victory over the shocked Red Sox. Yet the real story was, and will continue to be, hometown boy Lou Piniella, a graduate of Tampa Jesuit ...
