THE freight subsidiary of German Rail, DB Cargo, is reorganising its block train services to offer three basic products: Plantrain, Variotrain, and Flextrain. 'This is new country for us," commented Dr Bernd Malmstrom head of DB Cargo. 'The product offensive is not just a question of customers and quality, we want to achieve growth by improving services."
Plantrain is the lowest-cost block-train service, suitable for the coal and steel industries, offering regular transport for bulk freight The quantities, days and times are fixed by contract, and must be agreed at least two months before the service starts.
