AFTER JAMES JOYCE WON THE U.S. censorship trial over his novel Ulysses, he received more telegraphs than ever congratulating him on his genius. That is, until his daughter, Lucia, cur the line. "I am the genius," she told him.

Two new plays this month investigate and celebrate the daughter of one of the 20th century's most important authors: Mabou Mines's Cara Lucia runs April 15-May 11 at New York's HERE Arts Center, and Pig Iron Theatre Company's James Joyce Is Dead and So Is Paris: The Lucia Joyce Show runs April 9-May 11 at Christ Church in Philadelphia.
