The Toronto Blue Jays' 2003 marketing theme is "Baseball North," and - those three early season beatings by the New York Yankees aside - it does appear the Blue Jays are heading in that direction under second-year general manager J.P. Ricciardi.
Needing to overhaul the roster, Ricciardi (pronounced Rih-CHAR-dee) jettisoned several unproductive, high-priced players, such as Raul Mondesi. With the help of former Syracuse SkyChiefs Josh Phelps and Orlando Hudson, the Blue Jays had one of the better second-half records in the major leagues last year (44-32).
