Apr. 4--Cost factors will prohibit York County from utilizing a new agricultural bioterrorism warning system being developed by Penn State in University Park scientists.
In June, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency awarded a three-year, $3.5 million grant to Penn State so campus scientists could study how to genetically engineer plants to detect chemical and biological agents.
The agency is a division of the U.S. Department of Defense, said Ramesh Raina, an assistant professor of biology in the Eberly College of Science.
