A dozen "families" camped out on DuPage County government land this week to bring home the message that it takes a community to stop child abuse.
The families of wooden, life-sized cutouts sit on the lawn outside the Children's Advocacy Center in Wheaton.
Each bears a painted message of how child abuse and neglect has touched this affluent suburb: Two children killed in 2002 and 600 cases of abuse and neglect reported.
The statistics, however, tell a prettier picture than is on the horizon.
