THE chemical weapons fiend leading Saddam Hussein's forces in southern Iraq is believed to have been killed in an air and artillery strike, British commanders said yesterday.

Saddam's cousin and right-hand man, Ali Hassan al-Majid - dubbed Chemical Ali - was positively identified entering a building in Basra on Friday.

He is thought to have been still inside when it was blitzed soon after by precision air and artillery strikes.

Al-Majid, one of Saddam's most trusted henchmen, got his nickname after using chemical weapons to gas 5,000 Kurds in Iraq ...
