INDIA's prime minister, Mr Atal Bihari Vajpayee, has announced a Rs 150 billion ($US 3.1 billion) five-year railway development programme. Vajpayee particularly mentioned three projects:
* a Rs 9.2 billion mega bridge across the river Ganges between Munger and Khagaria in Bihar state
* a Rs 3.5 billion gauge conversion project to bring the whole of the 305km route between the port of Gandhidham and Palanpur in Gujarat to broad gauge, and
* a Rs 3.1 billion 151km track doubling project between Gooty and Pullampeta line in Andra Pradesh.
The track doubling project is on the Mumbai-Chennai ...
