Girls' lacrosse, starting its second season this week as a Minnesota State High School League sport, is enduring early growing pains.
Schools offering the sport on the varsity or club level are getting a huge response. Trouble is, there are not enough properly trained coaches to teach the sport.
"We had three, four schools call us within the last three weeks about club teams," said Dave Holdsworth, president of the Northcentral Schoolgirls Lacrosse Association. "We had to tell them it was too late. We go through a rigorous [preseason] training program for [new] coaches."
