AMERICAN scientists are today conducting urgent tests on suspected chemical weapons discovered hidden in Iraq.
Experts believe they may have found quantities of the nerve agents sarin and tabun and the blister agent lewisite.
If confirmed, it will be the first discovery of the deadly weapons America and Britain insisted were being hoarded by Saddam Hussein. The Allies desperately need to show evidence that the Iraqis possess weapons of mass destruction to substantiate claims made to the United Nations.
But already there are warnings that the chemicals discovered may be harmless pesticides.
