When Ashley Ezell showed up for tryouts as a freshman at First Colonial, a teammate confused her with someone's little sister.
It was an easy mistake to make, considering Ezell stood 4 feet 5 and weighed 63 pounds after a big meal.
But she proved that she could hold her own by finishing 10 minutes ahead of the pack on the first of many distance runs.
A few months later she qualified for the first of her 11 state meets in cross country, indoor track and outdoor track.
Though each journey has been a little different, it has grown a little more sentimental each time.
