A grand piano sits in the tropical-style lobby of the new Lakeland Regional Cancer Center in Lakeland, Fla. The piano's list price was about $19,000, but the center paid $14,000, a discount of 26%.
Not bad, for a materials management department that is more used to negotiating for radiology equipment and procedure trays.
The 33,300-square-foot cancer center, which opened Jan. 13, is part of nearby Lakeland Regional Medical Center, 850 beds.
