THE agonising wait is almost over for thousands of Billy Fury fans with news that a specially commissioned bronze life-size statue of the 1960s singing icon is to be unveiled on Easter weekend in Liverpool's Life Museum at the Pier Head.
Although Fury died twenty years ago from a lifelong heart complaint, the Liverpool-born crooner is now regarded as one of the greatest performers in show business.
Impresario Bill Kenwright paid tribute to the former tugboat man with the musical The Sound of Fury and there is a popular stage show featuring several of his former backing band constantly touring the UK.
