The Twins' brain trust believed the 2003 Twins would be a better team than the 2002 version that went to the American League Championship Series.

The reasons:

- The Twins' rotation was bound to be healthier than in 2002, when the top three starters spent months on the disabled list.

- The key figures in the bullpen would be accustomed to their roles.

- The lineup would be more experienced, healthier and more balanced.
