THE KEY northern Iraqi city of Mosul fell today, leaving Saddam Hussein's home town of Tikrit facing a last stand against US troops.
Kurdish fighters walked into Mosul unopposed to accept surrender from representatives of the Iraqi government as the last ragtag elements of Saddam's army gave up the fight and started to walk home in their thousands.
It is the second strategically vital northern city to fall in 24 hours, leaving much of the area in the hands of Kurdish peshmerga soldiers. But its fall has raised tensions with neighbouring Turkey, which fears the Kurds ...
