SADDAM'S regime was in its death throes last night, with total defeat likely within days.
Iraq's third largest city, Mosul, was taken without a fight and Allied forces are now preparing to attack Tikrit, last bastion of the toppled Iraqi president.
Yesterday they destroyed five planes near the city, which they believed had been ready to spirit Saddam out of the country to freedom.
