The BBC is currently inviting its viewers to 'walk with cavemen', but such a journey need not take us back to the era of woolly mammoths and loincloths. It was perfectly possible to walk with cavemen and their wives much more recently than this. They might even have invited you inside for a cup of tea.
Cave dwellers were still to be found in Shropshire and Worcestershire well into the last century, and if the last inhabitants have now checked out, their places of habitation remain.
