The ASC and its members have been instrumental in developing the revised Test Method 24 to measure volatile organic compounds (VOCs) contained in adhesive products. After the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) developed the original Test Method 24, the adhesives industry protested, contending that the EPA-developed test generally overestimates the VOC content of products utilizing a water-based technology. The industry also objected to a revised test method that did not account for the wide variety of viscosities and property characteristics found in adhesives.
