Seeds
The seed is the dispersal stage of the life cycle of
angiosperms
and
gymnosperms
. It contains the embryo, the next generation of plant in miniature. Many seeds are dry when shed from their parent plant and are thus
adapted to withstand harsh environments until conditions suitable for germination are achieved.
The evolution of plants to produce seeds is poorly understood because the fossil evidence is incomplete.
