The Tri-State area has seven hospitals that serve the community, with a total of 1,300 beds. The largest in the area, and second largest in the state, is St. Mary's Hospital. With 400 beds and centers in cardiac care, neuroscience, diabetes, and cancer treatment, St. Mary's is a teaching hospital for Marshall Univerity's School of Medicine and School of Nursing. Cabell Huntington Hospital, a 291-bed facility, opened the 50,000 square-foot Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center in 2005.
