NEW LENOX -- A new church is the first of many plans to transform the property at St. Jude's. The building is the first phase of a construction project that eventually will connect all buildings on the property on West Second Avenue, said the Rev. Mike Slattery, pastor of the church.

The new, 20,000-square-foot church will seat 1,250, far more than the current capacity of 540. New growth in the area has been tremendous, Slattery said.

"Of all the new families coming to the area, eight out of 10 have reported to be Catholic," Slattery said.

"That is 80 percent.

We now have 3,500 families and continue to grow."
