WASHINGTON -- With the tiny but lingering possibility that some "faithless" member of the Electoral College might bolt from George W. Bush and vote for Al Gore for president, there was manufactured suspense throughout the day Monday from the 49 state capitals, an Anchorage, Alaska, library, and the District of Columbia.
But if Bush or anybody in his camp worried about a renegade tossing a wrench into the Electoral College machinery, they apparently didn't need to.
As the 538 votes from the Electoral College were tabulated, Bush had taken another step toward the White House.
