As a young girl, Terelynn Russell couldn't decide how she wanted her hair to be cut and styled. She was always afraid, she said, that she wouldn't like it.

"Basically, I'm indecisive ... When I was in junior high and high school, I didn't know how I wanted it to look.

So I didn't get it cut," she said.

As a result, Russell recently captured the grand prize at the Illinois State Fair for the longest ponytail in the state.

Russell and two other area residents competed.

There were nine categories overall.

Kim Henderson, 11, of Crest Hill won in the ages 11-12 group and Ashley Bishop, now 7, of Channahon placed fifth among ages 5-6.
