New labeling regulations for fat-reduced milk will take effect this summer. Two percent milk will be called "reduced-fat." One percent will be "low-fat" or "light" and skim milk will be called "fat-free."
The new names are intended to make clearer the amount of fat in milk.
The old 2 percent referred to 2 percent fat by weight.
It actually has 5 grams of fat per cup, which doesn't qualify as a low-fat product.
Whole milk, which will just be labeled milk, has 8.2 grams of fat, the new low-fat or light 1 percent has 2.6 grams of fat and skim, or fat-free, has 0.4 grams. Yearlong resolutions Here are 10 resolutions to keep you eating healthy all year long.
