Article: NEAR I-55, PARKING LOT SERVES COMMUTERS WHO JOIN CAR POOLS

The two-story balloon set up at Interstate 55 and U.S. 30 on Wednesday afternoon was the kind of prop that one often finds in the parking lot of a newly opened coin laundry, hair salon or chain restaurant. In this case, it was in the parking lot of a new parking lot.

The 71-space lot, built by the Illinois Department of Transportation on the infield of the northbound exit ramp from I-55, is a gathering spot for commuters who merge into car pools or van pools, or who ride a Pace bus to Lisle or Naperville.

It offers free parking, 24 hours a day.

"This is perfect for me," said Benji Haley of Joliet, who works for Coal City-based Monson Construction.
