A decision to recruit deputy candidates with mental muscle has caused some acrimony toward the Will County Sheriff's department. For the first time, applicants vying for a position as a Will County Sheriff's deputy are required to have an associate's degree.

The field of study doesn't matter.

Many experienced police officers from other jurisdictions and correctional officers at the Will County jail interested in the deputy jobs aren't happy with the change.
