JOLIET -- A recent Supreme Court ruling overturning a state criminal sentencing law prompted a delay Wednesday in the case of a Bolingbrook man convicted of killing his 3-month-old child.
Earlier in January, defense attorney Marilee Viola argued before Will County Judge Rodney Lechwar that questions of constitutionality had been raised about some of Illinois' sentencing laws.
The Supreme Court ruling came down a few days later.
Since the victim was such a young child, the judge may be required to sentence Pelt, who is 25, to life in prison.
