LOCKPORT -- Given a choice, would nearly 1,000 residents want to pay higher sewer rates or see their sanitary district merged into the Lockport's water department?
That's what customers in the Bonnie Brae-Forest Manor Sanitary District will discuss at a hearing Tuesday at Central Square.
The customers, nearly half of whom live in the city but get water and sewer service through the sanitary district, asked to be heard.
The issue started about a year ago when the sanitary district learned that it was exceeding its sewage treatment capacity by about 100,000 gallons a day.
